For thousands of years the mysterious, cryptic voodoo faith has played a central role among the peoples of West Africa, on the Gulf of Guinea. In 2015 two reporters travelled to Ouidah for the third time, trying to find what lies behind religious mysteries that at first sight seem impenetrable — and found not only the workings of the voodoo faith, but a weave of religions that appear distant and irreconcilable.
